Redundant I

Electronic tape

Duration: 6 min.

Redundant I consists entirely of modifications of the voice of soprano Eva Vazzana singing a text by New York writer Mark R. Harborth. This computer processing permits, among other things, a "microscopic" view of the phonemes, or individual sounds within a word, and the changes within them. This work uses techniques of change ringing, a system of varying orders of pitches which developed as a folk art among the bell-ringers of England.

Recorded on The Terrain of Possibilities (EMF) .
