April 13 & 14, 2012: The Claremont Colleges Chamber Choir will be premiering my The Cracked Kettle with choreography by Ronnie Brosterman in Garrison Hall, Scripps College. The choir will also give a concert performance of the piece on May 4 at 12:15 pm in Balch Auditorium, Scripps College. Thanks to conductor Chuck Kamm for the commission.
April 1, 2012: I contributed a tuning for Aron Kallay's Vexations project, in which a team of 15 pianists takes on Erik Satie's notorious work, each performing in a different tuning.
November 19, 2011: The Harvey Mudd College American Gamelan and Electronic Music Ensemble performed works of mine, including premieres of Liminal Landscape and Circular Reasoning for electric guitars, electric bass, keyboards, and gamelan instruments.
July 6, 2011: A new video of Rachel Rudich's performance of my In-Yo for shakuhachi and electronics from last winter's Ussachevsky Festival has been posted to a new youtube channel of works from that festival:
March 4-5, 2011: It was my pleasure to deliver a keynote talk for a symposium on the music of Lou Harrison as a part of the Post-Classical Ensemble's festival "Sublime Confluence: The Music of Lou Harrison" at the Indonesian Embassy in Washington D.C. The following night I also spoke at the Post-Classical Ensemble's concert of Harrison's music at Lisner Hall. Angel Gil-Ordóñez conducted a fabulous program that included Harrison's Piano Concerto and Strict Songs.
May 23, 2010: Two new works of mine commissioned by UC Santa Cruz (see below) were repeated at their Spring Gamelan Concert.
April 25, 2010: Two new works of mine were premiered at the Pacific Rim Music Festival in Santa Cruz, where I was the Porter College Distinguished Artist and Lecturer this spring. (See a preview story here. The UCSC Balinese Gamelan will perform my Angin Listrik for two electric guitars and gamelan, and Linda Burman-Hall and Henry Spiller will perform my Toccata and Ground for harpsichord and kacapi (West Javanese zither). February 6, 2010: Rachel Rudich performed my In-Yo for shakuhachi and electronics at the "Ussachevsky Electronic Music Festival at Pomona College, Claremont. I also played stones (!) for Rachel's performance of John Cage's Ryoanji.
March 2008: Mode Records has released Por Gitaro, a CD of guitar works by Lou Harrison, performed by John Schneider. The disc includes Harrison's In Honor of the Divine Mr. Handel performed by Schneider and the HMC American Gamelan, which I direct. I also wrote the program notes for the disc.
